Urban Oasis

Our client was looking to downsize and didn’t want to give up an outdoor experience and a place to get cooled off in the SoCal heat. This charming and modest home only had a quaint but spacious yard, so we went to work on creating an inviting pool and intimate lounging areas.

Renovating during the pandemic has been challenging no matter what the project due to the bevy of delays. But, all the hard work and patience have finally paid off. After removing the additional shade structure the previous owners put in more than twenty years ago, it opened the yard too so many possibilities.

Starting with the client's true wish, a slimline-long lap pool was added. We used simple clean colors, nothing fussy so the project would allow for varying colors and styling for each destination point within the yard. Then the attention moved to the relaxing dining space.

This area evokes a touch of European charm with an antique French fountain under a redwood trellis for a subtitle refreshing sound of water. Here you are surrounded by some of the owner’s favorite yet easy to maintain plantings. It’s a spot for a bite to eat and a solid dinner conversation. After a nice meal, you can meander along the path and come to a secret conversation space.

Placed under the wonderful old oak tree, this is a cozy spot to sip a glass of wine in the evening and watch the dog play in the yard or just listening to the birds while you work on your morning coffee.
